Carrickfergus Enterprise marks 45 years as it prepares for major growth in 2026

Carrickfergus Enterprise is celebrating 45 years of supporting local businesses and driving economic development, while investing in expanded facilities and sector-focused skills programmes.

With new infrastructure, targeted academies and continued growth of its enterprise networks, the social enterprise is building on strong foundations to support even more entrepreneurs and employers right across the borough.

In 2025, Carrickfergus Enterprise successfully delivered a Tourism Academy as part of Go Succeed, equipping individuals with the skills, confidence and industry insight needed to access opportunities within the tourism sector.

The programme marked a significant step in strengthening local capability within a key growth industry and enhancing employment pathways for participants.

Another major milestone was securing approval for the installation of 12 new office pods with toilet facilities at the Meadowbank Road location in Trooperslane Industrial Estate. The pods are to extend the provision of office accommodation onsite, alongside increasing overall capacity to support more businesses locally.

Installation of the pods is planned for later in 2026, alongside refurbishment works within the Phase 3 building to further enhance the infrastructure available for businesses to start and scale.

Meanwhile, Enterprising Women – a dedicated female network in Mid and East Antrim that supports new and established female entrepreneurs – also continued to thrive, growing to 160 members during 2025. Multiple events sold out throughout the year, reflecting the strong demand for peer support, collaboration and tailored engagement opportunities for women entrepreneurs in the area.

Looking ahead to the rest of the year, Carrickfergus Enterprise has successfully tendered for a Hospitality Academy funded by the Labour Market Partnership.

“As we approach our 45th anniversary, this is both a moment of celebration and a time of renewed ambition for Carrickfergus Enterprise.

At a time when the hospitality sector faces ongoing challenges and negative press, the Hospitality Academy represents a proactive investment in skills development and sector resilience, providing practical support within an industry that remains vital to the local economy.

A special milestone in 2026 will also see the organisation’s Chief Executive Officer, Kelli McRoberts, celebrate an amazing 28 years with Carrickfergus Enterprise. Kelli has spent 30 years working within the enterprise sector, reflecting the longstanding leadership, commitment and deep experience that continues to shape the organisation’s impact.

Kelli McRoberts, Chief Executive Officer of Carrickfergus Enterprise, said: “From delivering the Tourism Academy and growing our Enterprising Women network to expanding our facilities with new office pods, we are continually evolving to meet the needs of our local business community.

“Securing the Hospitality Academy is particularly important. Despite the challenges facing the sector, hospitality remains central to our local economy and community identity. By investing in skills, confidence and practical development opportunities, we are sending a clear message that this sector matters and that we are committed to supporting its long-term sustainability.

“Personally, reaching 28 years with Carrickfergus Enterprise and 30 years in the enterprise sector is incredibly meaningful. I remain passionate about the role community-based enterprise organisations play in unlocking potential, creating opportunity and ensuring our local economy continues to grow and adapt for the future.”
