After a career break Exploring Enterprise was the right programme at the right time to get back into a job

When Iris reached a stage in her life where she had decided to leave her employment as at the time she had a family friend who was sick and in hospital. After 2 years had passed she felt that her confidence was dropping, she had lost her sense of fulfilment and although she wanted to return to work, she did not think she had the necessary qualifications to get back into the job that she had previously been in.

Why he came on the Programme

I went along one day to an Employability Fair in Ballyclare and met a very enthusiastic individual, Kerry, who started up a conversation with me as to why I was there and what I wanted to do.  I told her that I was not looking for a job but did feel that I needed some help updating my CV as I did not know the right buzz words to use in order to secure employment.

How has the programme helped him?

I wanted to get my sense of direction back and for me the biggest help has been getting my CV updated as it has regained my confidence in my skills and abilities.  It allowed me to meet new people and not feel so alone and made me realise what I had actually achieved and that I was not finished with employment.

What are the key achievements?

Securing full time employment with the Trust as a Level 3 Personal Secretary.  The post was originally for 12 weeks but I am still here and enjoying it and the people I work with.  It is very busy and can be quite chaotic at times but it is different and it suits me.

Where he is now compared to start of programme

I am in a much better place now as I have got my self-worth back, have job satisfaction and am full time employed through the Trust rather than an agency.

How he found the support from AEA?

The support was first class, excellent and even now I feel that I could lift the phone and speak to Kerry and ask for help.
