When at a crossroads in her life, Catherine found the direction needed on Exploring Enterprise

Catherine had taken a career break to explore her options and to look after her family. She felt that she needed something for her and considered starting up her own business but was not sure what type of business or how to go about it.

Why she came on the Programme

I wanted the programme to help me decide if returning to work was what I really wanted to do or whether I wanted to explore the option of setting up my own business.  I had explored ideas based on my skill set but wanted to find out how to go about starting an actual business.

How has the programme helped her?

It has given me more confidence in myself and my abilities and made me realise that plenty of people start their business small and work to make it grow.  It helped me get all the ideas out of my head and decide on the one that I wanted to pursue.

What were her key achievements?

1, Deciding on a product/business idea;

2, Deciding on a name and brand;

3, starting up my own business, Goodstuf;

4, finding out who and where my customers are and

5, selling my products to customers.

Where she is now compared to start of programme

I have now started the business making a range of healthy cakes and vegetable cakes and have now started to sell them out in the market.

How she found the support from AEA?

Kerry was always there with a smile on her face and I know that even now I have completed the programme, I can give her a shout if I need help.  She was so supportive in the development of my idea and I feel now I am ready to make a real go of it.
