Carrickfergus Enterprise Skills Up

Over 20 local tourism businesses recently completed World Host Customer Service training at Carrickfergus Enterprise. The Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, Councillor Lindsay Millar presented certificates to a selection of businesses such as hotels, tour companies and independent accommodation providers.

The course was part of the Glens Coastal Hub programme which covered the area along the coast from Ballygally to Ballycastle. Delivered by Lynda Willis from Customer Sense Training, the course was designed to give staff the skills and confidence to deliver a warm and friendly welcome to visitors and to be Ambassadors for their local area. Content covered included Principles of Customer Service and on a practical note a familiarisation trip along the glens taking in key sites and attractions.

Kelli Bagchus, Manager of Carrickfergus Enterprise, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer local tourism providers the opportunity to enhance the skills offering in our local area. We were encouraged by the range of businesses who completed the training including businesses as diverse as the Dark Hedges Estate, the Ballygally Castle Hotel, The Irish Seaweed Company and Carnlough Boat Tours. The advantage is that World Host is an internationally recognised standard and in an increasingly competitive market, good customer service skills are a must and can set you apart from your competitors. ”

Tourism is a key driver of the Northern Ireland economy and our goal is to make sure that smaller tourism businesses have fully trained staff able to deliver world class customer service. Given that there will be an additional 9,500 jobs by 2025 in the hospitality industry in Northern Ireland it is important that local businesses are ready to provide the best unique customer experience possible. Tourism continues to grow attracting more visitors along the Causeway Coastal Route from year to year so it is important in an increasingly competitive market for local traders to set themselves apart through attention to detail and world class customer service skills. The course was suitable for new start-ups and established businesses and staff at all levels. “

Furthermore Carrickfergus Enterprise has achieved the required standards to become a WorldHost® Recognised Business. The accolade will support tourism in the area and recognises the leadership and commitment of Carrickfergus Enterprise to the sector.

Kelli Bagchus, Manager of Carrickfergus Enterprise, continued: “We are delighted to receive this official recognition. Both myself and my colleague Alan Hamilton, completed the training as we felt we could take the principles from World Host and apply them to our business. We enjoyed networking with our participants and we all learnt something.  We look forward to welcoming new businesses and visitors and being able to put our new skills into practice. “
