Tomasz Gomala has been a passionate baker for the last twenty years and his wife Marta has thirteen years’ experience in the catering industry. It has been a dream come true for the couple to open their own business at The Old Mill Bakery, Ballymena. Tomasz sells a range of traditional products previously offered by Leith Bakery and has added many of his own favourites including sweet treats, Rye bread and crusty rolls, sausage rolls, apple pie and crumble. In a short space of time The Old Mill Bakery has become increasingly popular with the locals and hotels in the area. After being made redundant in 2019 Nigel Redmond decided to put his joinery and carpentry skills to good use and set up Creative Carpentry. Creative Carpentry works on first and second fixes on new home builds, can make efficient use of space, produces bespoke furniture, concrete mould making and provides a flat pack assembly service. Daniel Martin from The Larder has a keen interest in caring for the environment, particularly pollution of our oceans. His background is in Finance and after much research on zero waste businesses, decided to launch his very own store. The Larder has already become a popular place to shop and Daniel’s products are wide ranging including store cupboard foods, frozen foods, cleaning, bathroom and kitchen products. Daniel aims to spend his £500 Seed Fund grant on customised printed reusable shopping bags and local marketing. Rae Kirk enjoyed a successful career working for twenty years at Ballymena Borough Council, six years in WAVE Trauma Centre and thirteen years at the Electoral Office for Northern Ireland . Rae retired in July 2019 and is excited about embarking on her new adventure with her own business at Rae’s Slemish Tours. Rae is a farmer’s daughter, born and bred in The Braid Valley area, at the foothill of Slemish mountain, a natural area of beauty. Rae will be offering a range of tours beginning Spring 2020. Adrian McWilliams is a well-qualified and experienced multi-instrumentalist and musician who recently launched Taylorstown Musical Services. Taylorstown Musical Services offers one-to-one tuition, group workshops and online courses. His associate Stevie (also self-employed) RHS image contributes to 1-1 tuition offerings and they also work together in offering commercial and private GIGS where they can play and sing any type of music!
