Erasmus+ 'Value of Failure' project

Erasmus+ 'Value of Failure' project

From September 2014 until December 2016, Enterprise Northern Ireland worked with partners on an Erasmus+ research project to improve the chances and opportunities for second chance entrepreneurs - those starting a business after a prevous failure experience.

The Value of Failure project worked to increase awareness of educational, cultural and financial barriers preventing entrepreneurs with a previous failure experience to try again.  The project produced a number of key outcomes which would help second chance entrepreneurs, and those working to support them, take another chance at business ownership.

In particular, we developed:

  • quality training materials which can be used by enterprise support organisations to help and encourage second chance entrepreneurs take the necessary steps to start a new business venture;
  • quality educational materials which can be used by further and higher education institutions with under- and post-graduate students to learn more about failure in general, and entrepreneurial failure in particular, with the aim of removing the stigma and negative stereotypes associated with failure;
  • materials, toolkits and resources which can be used by other countries or regions interested in offering similar support to second chance entrepreneurs in their own locality.

The project ended on 31st December 2016, although the project website continues to offer insights and free access to all training and educational materials: please visit www.valueoffailure.com
